The Story of Ring

The company Ring which specializes in security cameras has an insane business story of being rejected by Shark Tank, to be acquired by Amazon for one billion dollars in 2018! So what happened?

In 2013, Jamie Siminoff was an inventor who worked in his garage with an intern, however, none of their inventions were working. He has a problem though, he hates to get up out of his chair to go check the front door when the doorbell rings. Sometimes he gets a pizza, or parts for his inventions. Other times, he was greeted by a random kid on a Segway advertising some random lawncare service. So he comes up with the idea to make a doorbell with a camera on it so he can check who was at his door from his phone, and thus the smart doorbell was born, and Jamie named the company Doorbot. Later in 2013, he went to Shark Tank seeking 700K, but all the Sharks didn’t see the potential in the idea so they all dropped out. The bright side is that the publicity brings in three million dollars worth of sales. The next year in 2014, they rebranded to Ring which we all know and love today. In 2018, Amazon offered to buy them for one billion dollars and they accept, and now Ring Doorbells are all over the place!
